Sunday Post Secret - Death Buddy

This felt rather appropriate since my anxiety filled plane ride. I often fear dying alone. Even though the landing was scary, it was comforting that I was sitting next to a nice lady who talked with me during our rough landing.

9 Months

We have been married 9 months today. I joked with Dan that we could have had our first baby by now! Strange thought. Anyway yesterday we were talking about something and I said something like, well you figured that out months ago... then I counted... 21 months ago. Holy moly. Both of us agree, it feels like yesterday that we met and it doesn't feel like its been almost 2 years. 3 more months and we will be graduated and hopefully know a little bit more about where we are moving! We will also be celebrating out sealing, our anniversary and my 23rd birthday. To say the least I cannot WAIT until June!!!My cousin Chainey's birthday party today... here are some fun pictures from our day:

Landing in AZ

Landing is usually my favorite part of any flight, it means I am finally done with the flying part but I can honestly say that was the worst flight I have ever been on... I am not a jet setter by any means but since I was 13 I have been on probably just over 2 dozen flights, but still.

Everything was going fine with this flight till we started our descent. We seemed to circle Phoenix for about 20 minutes and never seemed to be getting much lower and our pilot had warned us about the bad crosswinds.

We finally started to get lower and about a minute before touching ground I knew there was something wrong and so did everyone else! It felt like we are on a boat that was rocking back and forth at sea. I was sitting at the window thinking to myself, how on earth is he possibly going to land this and the ground is right there.

Instead of the usual touch down we had a nice slam down and then pick up and slam down again. It was pretty scary. Not to mention the fact that the plane seemed to be throwing itself down the runway with no signs of stopping. Finally we got to the place were we knew things were okay. The passengers exploded in applause.

The pilot came on the intercom and thankfully he had a sense of humor. He simply said, "Welcome to Phoenix, twice!" He then went on to joke about the next time we want to trap ourselves in a large metal tube with a bunch of strangers he hopes we think of Southwest and if we had a flight connecting to somewhere else, sorry we wouldn't be going anywhere. He also gave us some sound advice, "life is too short, be nice to each other!"

He came back on the intercom again while we were unloading and told us that a few flights a head of him and the flights after him were diverting to Tucson, but we braved the winds. My mom just told me that they shut down the air port. We landed at 8:55 and the man in this article was reporting at 9:10

Well I am here now and Brett wants me to take him to ASU... I don't want to go back out in this wind :(

Gerontology Internship

This has been something I have been stressing about! I need to start my Gerontology internship on April 27th (yes I know its just over a month from now) but for me I feel like I am cutting it close! I had talked to the activities director before at Jamestown but I have not been able to get a hold of her in a few months!
Today I finally got in touch with her and I am excited that I will be starting my internship there in about 5 weeks!! I am happy that I am doing this in Spring because I will be able to park on campus (for the most part) and then drive up University Ave to Jamestown!

They do tons of activities and I cannot wait to get involved.

So yay when I graduate I will not only have a bachelors but a minor! I never intended to have a minor, but it turns out that I have found a great deal of passion from working in gerontology!

Tolstoy on Marriage

"Ivan had no clearly defined intention of marrying; but when the girl fell in love with him, he put the question to himself: "After all, why not get married?"

The young lady ... was of good family, nice-looking ... Ivan might have reckoned on a more brilliant match, but this was a good match. Ivan had his salary; she, he hoped, would have as much of her own.

It was a good family; she was sweet, pretty, and perfectly comme il faut young woman. To say that Ivan got married because he fell in love with his wife and found in her sympathy with his views of life, would be as untrue as to say that he got married because the people of his world approved of the match.

Ivan was influenced by both considerations; he was doing what was agreeable to himself in securing such a wife, and at the same time doing what persons of higher standing looked upon as the correct thing.

So Ivan got married."

He ends up hating her... She ends up hating him... My teacher thought this was a grand lesson to be taught at BYU. Too many people marry because they feel they are "supposed" to.

Moral of the story... do what is right for you and please marry someone you love!

The Death of Ivan Ilyich by Tolstoy

If you ever get the chance to read this story, do it!This has nothing to do with the story, I just think its a cute photo of Tolstoy and his Granddaughter!

Sunday Post Secret - Temple

My friend Allyson got me completely hooked on Post Secret a few years back... It is my guilty pleasure that I look forward to on Sundays. Sometimes I see things that remind me of myself and other times I see things that make me happy that I am who I am. However, whenever I see an LDS post it makes me really stop and think. Sometimes I think that I don't want the church to be portrayed like it is at times on Post Secret and other times I find simple truths within myself.
I saw this post today and felt very sad for these two women. I know its a sensitive subject for some people but I am glad that my mother and my entire family was by our sides on our wedding day and I am glad they will be there at our sealing as well.

Navy?!

Who ever decided that undergraduates should have to wear Navy cap and gowns upsets me!! I will find a way to do without this!

5 for 5!

K I took the plunge and decided I wanted in on this! So Jackie, here you go!!! I am quoting Jackie directly because she has a fabulous way of putting things!!

"The first five people to respond to this post will get something made by me! My choice. For you. This offer does have some restrictions and limitations:

1. I make no guarantees that you will like what I make!
2. What I create will be just for you.
3. It'll be done this year. That gives me a good nine-ish months to get it done!
4. You have no clue what it's going to be. Who knows? Not you, that's for sure!
5. I reserve the right to do something extremely strange (but don't expect my gift to be too strange because I am not good at coming up with strange things:).

The catch? Oh, the catch is that you must repost this on your blog and offer the same to the first 5 people who do the same on your blog. The first 5 people to do so and leave a comment telling me they did win a FAB-U-LOUS homemade gift by me!"

March :)

On Saturday I was going to take an exam, but I took it on Friday (did rather horribly) and did not even care. I wanted Saturday to hang out with Dan. We went to lunch together and then we drove up to Sundance. I didn't bring my camera but this picture shows how stinking beautiful it is up there. We walked around for a bit; bought suckers and sodas and watched the skiers.
Later we went and saw Slumdog Millionaire. Dan has been impersonating the TV show host from the movie all day today. I had not heard of it before, but when Dan said that the Director, Danny Boyle, also did Sunshine and 28 Days Later, I knew I had to see it because those are two of my all time favorite movies.
Anyway it was a really good movie. Intense at times but I really liked it. I especially loved the last scene during the credits. All of a sudden there was this huge Indian dance crew going on in this train station. It was hilariously awesome.
Now its March and I am smiling because Winter is pretty much over!!!
